The Four Main Dimensions of Food Security

  1. Availability: Physical existence of food, which requires consistent production, stock levels, and distribution systems.

  2. Access: Economic and physical means to obtain food, ensuring individuals have enough income or resources to acquire appropriate food for a nutritious diet.

  3. Utilization: Proper use of food through adequate diet, clean water, sanitation, and healthcare to reach a state of nutritional well-being.

  4. Stability: The ability to access food consistently, even during sudden shocks such as economic crises, climate events, or conflict.
